We began as the Byte Shop of San Luis Obispo in January 1978. Coastal Computers was founded in January 1979. We were one of the first authorized dealers in the world for Alpha Micro and Apple Computers. In the late 1970s personal computing was in its infancy: there were no IBM PCs, there were no student computers in schools, there were no computer magazines and there were very few computer stores. Coastal Computers was San Luis Obispo's first computer retailer.
